Jan Sterling (3 Apr 1921, New York, NY - 26 Mar 2004, Woodland Hills,
Los Angeles, CA) was an American actress, born Jane Sterling
Adriance, the daughter of
William Allen Adriance.
Jan Sterling studied drama in London, then began her stage career as a
teenager in New York City. She made her film debut in 1947. As well as
numerous television roles, her most notable film appearances inlcuded
Kirk Douglas's "sluttish, opportunistic wife" in Billy Wilder's 1951 Ace in
the Hole. In 1954, she won the Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress
for her role in The High and the Mighty", opposite John Wayne, for
which she was also Academy Award nominated. You can read much

On 3 May 1941, she married John Merivale. On 26 Aug 1947, they divorced.
On 12 May 1950, she married Paul Douglas Fleischer. He died 11 Sep 1959.

Her father was William Allen Adriance Jr (1 Jun 1894,
Poughkeepsie, Dutchess Co, NY - 1 Apr 1953, Stamford, Fairfield Co,
Connecticut). From 1914-17, he studied architecture at Cornell
University, and was later an advertising executive.
Her mother was Eleanor Ward Deans (22 Feb 1895, Pennsylvania - Mar
1989, Philadelphia, PA).
They married in 1919/20, and had children:

Owen Cahill III, son of Mrs Cahill and the late Captain Cahill of
Norfolk VA was announced. They married later in 1942. They divorced
after the war and she married Robert Lubliner, who took her to Chicago.
"Mimi" worked as a model for two decades. Her third husband was Marvin
J Welfeld, and they moved to south Florida in the late 1950s, where she
started a yoga centre in West Palm Beach. In 1974, Mimi Welfeld
started Sunrise Natural Foods in Palm Beach, FL, which she

Before 1930, her mother married Lt Cmdr Henry James White (14 Mar 1892,
Maryland - Jun 1980, District Heights, Prince Georges, Maryland).
In 1920, he was an Aviator, Curtis Co, living at 145 East 92nd St, New
York, NY, with his wife, her two daughters and a nurse. In 1942, they
lived at Linkhorn Park, New York. In 1941, Henry James White was
assistant naval attache and naval air attache at the American Embassy,
Berlin. Henry James White was also an executive for Socony Oil Company.
By 1936, her father married Winifred ______ (1899, Fort Worth, Texas -
Allen Adriance Jr's only sibling was Dorothy Allen Adriance (5 Mar
1893, Poughkeepsie, Dutchess Co, NY - ). On 13 Apr 1924, she married
Stefano Guidici Caraciolo, Prince de Leporano, at Villa Bianca, Capri,

father of John Sterling Deans Jr, Mary Elizabeth Deans, Eleanor Ward
Deans, and Robert Barr Deans.

she was a Widow, living at 520 Main St, Phoenixville, PA, with Eleanor
