Edwin
Howard Baker Pratt (5 June 1913, Glen Cove, New York – 18 March 1975,
Boston, Massachusetts)
was an American educator and headmaster of Buckingham Browne and
Nichols.
Pratt studied at Harvard College,
graduating in the class of 1936. By 1938, he was teaching at
Westminster School, Simsbury, New York, and had a house built there,
the Edwin H B Pratt residence. He was headmaster
of the private Browne and Nichols, now Buckingham Browne
and Nichols, Cambridge, MA, from 1949 to 1968. You

Pratt became engaged to Aileen Kelly, from Massachusetts (5
December 1915, Monte Carlo, Monaco - 8 May 1976, Marion, Plymouth Co,
MA) in 1935. They married in 1936-38, and
had 4 children:

Pratt Jr "Ted", (born 12 Jan
1945).
- Andrew Sears Pratt AKA Andy Pratt, (born 25 Jan
1947, Boston, MA), the youngest child, a noted singer-songwriter.
Ancestry
His father was lawyer and financier John Teele Pratt (25 December 1873,
Brooklyn, NY - 17 June 1927, New York, NY) was a corporate attorney,
philanthropist, music impresario, financier. and largest single
stockholder in Standard Oil of NY.
His mother was Congresswoman Ruth Baker Pratt, born Ruth Sears Baker
(24 August 1877, Ware, MA - 23 August 1965, Glen Cove, NY). Ruth Baker
Pratt was the first woman to represent New York in Congress, and
introduced the Pratt-Smoot Act, now Books for the Blind.
John Teele Pratt and Ruth Sears Baker Pratt had five children:
- John Teele Pratt Jr (11 Dec 1903, Greenwich, CT - 20 June 1969,
Glen Cove, NY). Vice Pres, Chromium Corp of America 1927-34;
later Vice Pres United Chromium Inc; 1930 purchased a seat on the NYSE
and became a partner in the brokerage house Post & Flagg (1931-39);
and head of Charles Pratt and Co from 1940. On 26 Aug 1925, John
Teele Pratt Jr married Mary Christy Tiffany (1905-1980) of St. Louis,
in Maine. They had a daughter, Marie Felicite Pratt (1926-2002), later
Marie Felicite Love. John Teele Pratt Jr married Elizabeth Ogden
Woodward (1907-1986) on 5 Sep 1935, Glen Cove, NY. She was married to
Robert Livingston Stevens of Hoboken NJ from 1928-35.
- Virginia Pratt (30 April 1905, Glen Cove, NY – Dec 1979,
Washington, DC), who married Robert Helyer
Thayer (1901-1984), lawyer, naval officer and diplomat. They had
children: Robert H Thayer Jr and Sally Sears Thayer.
- Sally Sears Pratt (2 Mar 1908, New York, NY - 15 July 1973). On
16 Feb 1928, she married James Jackson Jr (25 Apr 1905 - Oct 1986,
Dedham, MA), son of James Jackson (1881-1952) and Rachel Brooks (1883-)
in New York, NY.
- Phyllis Pratt (26 Mar 1912, New York, NY – 27 June 1987,
Washington, DC), who in 1932, married Paul Henry Nitze
(1907-2004), Secretary
of the Navy (1963-1967), and Deputy Secretary of Defense (1967-1969).
They had four children: Peter Nitze, William A Nitze, Phyliis Anina
"Nina" Nitze Thompson and Heide Nitze.
