Biography

Edwin Howard Baker Pratt (5 June 1913, Glen Cove, New York – 18 March 1975, Boston, Massachusetts) was an American educator and headmaster of Buckingham Browne and Nichols.

Pratt studied at Harvard College, graduating in the class of 1936. By 1938, he was teaching at Westminster School, Simsbury, New York, and had a house built there, the Edwin H B Pratt residence. He was headmaster of the private Browne and Nichols, now Buckingham Browne and Nichols, Cambridge, MA, from 1949 to 1968. You can read more about him at Wikipedia.

Pratt became engaged to Aileen Kelly, from Massachusetts (5 December 1915, Monte Carlo, Monaco - 8 May 1976, Marion, Plymouth Co, MA) in 1935. They married in 1936-38, and had 4 children:

His mother was Congresswoman Ruth Baker Pratt, born Ruth Sears Baker (24 August 1877, Ware, MA - 23 August 1965, Glen Cove, NY). Ruth Baker Pratt was the first woman to represent New York in Congress, and introduced the Pratt-Smoot Act, now Books for the Blind.
