Joseph Fenech-Conti (1926-2010)
Biography
Joseph Fenech-Conti (31 Jan 1926, Malta - 2010) was a teacher and the
Founder of the Centre for the Blind, St Venera, and the Malta Wireless
for the Blind Fund.
Together with Richard Cannataci, they taught at the same Sliema primary
school until 1959, when they both went to England to study as teachers
of the blind. Together, they served blind adults in Malta until
December 1978. Joe Fenech-Conti pioneered the welfare of the blind in
Malta. A pension for all registered blind people was awarded in the
1960s. He also founded the Malta Wireless for the Blind Fund. Blind
adults received education, were taught Braille and were even trained
for employment as telephone operators and in other working skills.

His son Joe Fenech Conti is Chairman of PBS of Malta and a Director of
Air Malta. Joe Fenech Conti married Wilhelmina Wirth, daughter of Henry
William Wirth (1922 - 9 Oct 2010) and Gladys Drago.
