Biography
Eleanor Jean Gilbert Bayes (3 May 1908, London, England - Mar qtr 1999,
London, England). In 1927, she signed her name as "Jean Bayes" and was
an Art Student.
From 16-20 Apr 1936, Eleanor Bayes sailed on the SS Viceroy of India
from Gibraltar to London. She was an Artist, living at 4 Greville
Place, Maida Vale, London NW6 (her parents house from 1931-1953).
Eleanor Jean Bayes died Mar quarter 1999, Westminster, London.
Ancestry
Her father was Gilbert William Bayes
RA (4 Apr 1872, St Pancras, London - 1953, London), a British sculptor
and medalist. There is even an entire gallery named after him at the

Her mother was Gertrude Smith, a fellow sculptor.
They married in 1906 in Farnham, Surrey, and had children:

- Walter John Bayes RWS (31 May 1869 - 21 Jan 1956, Hampstead,
London). A painter,
etcher, illustrator, theatrical scenery designer and also a lecturer
and writer on artistic subjects. He taught at the City & Guilds
Institute, at the Camberwell School of Arts and Crafts, he was a highly
regarded teacher as the Headmaster of Westminster School of Art
(1918-1934) and Lecturer on perspective to the Royal Academy and Slade
School and Director of Painting at Lancaster School of Arts and Crafts
1944-49. In 1904, he married Katherine Telfer, and they had two sons:
Alfred James Montreuil Bayes (Jim Bayes) (1907, London - ) and
Alexander George Thompson Bayes.

Artist and lecturer.
- Jessie Bayes (1876-1970). Minaturist painter and Arts and Crafts
